Aylesham Parish Council

Tree works at Spinney Woods

Spinney Woods is an important asset for local people, and it is managed by Aylesham Parish Council with the White Cliffs Countryside Partnership (WCCP) to help wildlife to thrive and provide safe and welcoming access to people.

To allow for this, regular tree inspections are undertaken to assess the health of trees along the site’s boundary and the well-used routes through the wood used by members of the public.

A recent tree inspection, which was carried out in February, identified 34 trees in need of urgent attention from a health and safety perspective. The majority will need to be felled in their entirety. The trunks and branches of the felled trees will be left in the wood to provide additional habitat for wildlife.

The tree works will commence in late March and continue into April. The recent removal of the Tree Preservation Order in Spinney Wood allows for management such as this to take place, so members of the public can continue to safely access the woods.

The woodlands are still protected open space under the Local Plan Policy PM5 – Semi/Natural Greenspace (2019 Assessment).

To find out more about the work we are doing in Spinney Wood, contact WCCP on [email protected] or 01304 241806.

If you would like to get involved helping to protect and care for Spinney Wood, why not join one of the regular volunteer days where we do work to improve the woods for wildlife and people.

The volunteer days are usually on the last Monday of the month, the next one being Monday 31 March. Contact WCCP to find out more.

19th March 2025.
